The client’s description of the space as “old world, steampunk, sexy” was both an exciting challenge and fun to execute. The logs themselves became the foundation for the design, imparting warmth, depth, and a rustic texture to the entire space. We took full advantage of this natural beauty, allowing the organic elements of the logs to influence the design, creating a harmonious and intimate environment.
To channel the steampunk theme, we incorporated exposed brass pipes throughout the space. These industrial elements juxtaposed with the log walls created a striking contrast, elevating the room’s character. The rough-hewn tile added further texture, and antique-inspired cabinetry brought the vision of the client to life. The cabinets surrounding the refrigerator were designed to mimic old ice coolers, a subtle nod to history that added both functional and aesthetic value to the space.
For the shower, we designed a custom glass enclosure that was strategically wrapped around the logs. This ingenious solution allowed us to protect the logs from water while still maintaining the visual connection to the wood, keeping the natural beauty intact. We wanted to celebrate the logs as part of the interior, not hide them.
The original kitchen cabinetry was repurposed in the new laundry room, maintaining continuity while giving a new life to the existing materials. This approach was an example of sustainable design, where we honored the cabin’s past and found ways to reuse and reimagine old pieces.
Throughout the project, we tapped into all of our creative tools to make this space truly one-of-a-kind.
